Here are some tips if your audio happens to fail. I have experienced these problems before, so I thought I might as well try to help others who have the problem. You can also consult your speakers or sound cards manual for more help.

Oh boy, how many times has that happened to me. Let me see, too many to count I guess. Anyways, it always can be fixed. Below are all of the things that I do when I have no sound, and they have always worked out for me.

Troubleshooting Checklist

Speakers are plugged in and turned on.
Speakers are connected to the correct outputs on the sound card and not plugged in the microphone or line in ports.
Select Start/Programs/Accessories/Volume Control and move the slider all the way up.
Next, set the volume control slider a quarter of the way to the top. Now, make sure the “Mute” and “Mute All” check boxes are cleared.
Open your Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and make sure the name of your sound card is listed beside “Sound, video and game controllers.” If it is not showing there, then you have to install your sound cards driver from the installation CD.
Open your sound card configuration utility and make sure the selected output matches the actual digital or analog connection to your speakers.
Make sure your speakers are working properly. Plug them into an audio source, such as your CD player. If they do not work, then most likely they are broken or blown.

Basic networking of computers has been around since the early 1960’s and is actually the main foundation of the internet that exists today. Simply put, networking is connecting computers together to share data.
Basic Network Types

There are several different types of categories that a network can fall into, but we will only talk about geographic networks, which are the most common. First there are Local Area Networks, also known as LANs. That is probably a term that you have heard a lot, and is something that you will hear more of in the future. Basically, a LAN is sharing data across a home or office building. The next type of network is Wide Area Networks (WANs), and this type of network can reach across entire cities, states or even the entire world! In fact the internet is the biggest WAN network that exists.

Basic networking can also be designed only one of two ways, either a client server or a peer-to peer (P2P) network. Client servers are the ones that host web sites, email, files and some online applications. These are of course most common for businesses, but P2P networks are found in homes, on just about everybody’s computer. That is of course what file sharing programs are, regular computers coming together to make basically one giant computer (a network).
Peer-to-peer networks make it possible to get whatever song you want, when you want it. If it were a client server, then that business would be shut down before they could plug the computers in, because music sharing is a copyright violation, and no business can profit from that.

Networked computers are communicating with each other, so they need to have a language protocol so they can understand each other. This is where network protocols come in and serve a great purpose. Electrostatic discharge, or ESD, is the transfer of electricity from one thing to another. A good example of this is when you walk across a fuzzy carpet and then shock your hand when you touch that doorknob. It is mostly harmless in that quantity, but it is more than enough current to stop a computer part in its tracks.

Essentially, static electricity is the build up of electrical charges in something, the something being you in this case. While the charge is relatively small and can spark excitement in you when you shock an unsuspecting friend, in reality when you do the same to a computer component it can make a happy computer a broken computer. While the shock you feel from a friend is about 2,000 volts, it only takes a discharge as low as 200 volts to destroy a computer chip.

When handling computer parts it is important to take great care not to damage it with extra electrons floating around. What I mean is that you have to get rid of that static electricity so when you touch the component it will not be damaged. Luckily, the remedy is simple. You must ground yourself to get rid of the excess particles. Touch your hand to anything metal that is not also touching your computer. This can include a desk with a metal frame, a metal chair, or even the metal part of your computer case! To be extra safe, there are antistatic wrist straps sold that constantly keep you grounded when working with computer parts. They come at a price of only about $10.

Another factor going against you is that you may think a computer part is perfectly fine and was unaffected by any ESD. When parts are affected by ESD the signs of damage are not always immediate. They can slow a part down gradually until it does not work at all.

ESD is the leading cause of a broken computer when messing with internal computer components. Just remember to ground yourself, and if possible, keep yourself grounded.

Tips to Avoid Having a Broken Computer

Knowing the difference between a broken computer and wounded computer will save you a lot of time and money. I consider a computer to be broken when parts must inevitably be replaced because they are too damaged to be repaired. This could be because of misuse or just because they are getting to be really old pieces. On the other hand, just because a computer does not work does not mean that it is doomed for the trash can.

There are several precautions to take when handling the physical parts of a computer. The hardware of a computer is very delicate, and it is very susceptible to static electricity. The transfer of electric charge from one component to another is called electrostatic discharge (ESD). Anyone can build up a small static charge just by walking on carpet. ESD can happen when you touch any circuitry or anything metal on your computer. This can severely damage your computer components, and what is worse is that it is not always immediately evident. Other ways to avoid mishandling computer parts is think of holding an egg. Now imagine it being more fragile. When you buy new computer parts do not open the package right until you are ready to install them. Circuit boards and CPUs have metal prongs or pins on the back the component that are easily bent. Holding the computer part on the edges can avoid this. If you must lay the part down, lay it down on a flat and even surface. If you notice that there are any damages such as bent pins when you open a new computer part, return it to receive a new one. It is not worth the money for something that possibly already does not work.

Just because your computer is acting like its 100 years old and you bought it 1 year ago does not mean that hardware misuse is to blame. The field of technology is fast-growing, and your computer just might be a victim of that. What this means is either you do need to upgrade your parts to more recent version, or you simply need to upgrade your drivers. Assuming you have a decent knowledge about Windows OS and an Internet connection, updating your drivers is as simple as a few mouse clicks. This does not need to be done as soon as new drivers are released. If you are not experiencing any problems, then do not test fate. If it is not broke, do not fix it. Your computer might be really slow but have nothing to do with the outside of your computer. Downloading the wrong thing can result in the slowing of your computer. There are people out there that write programs that intentionally slow or damage your computer software. You knew that. They are designed to be hard to get rid of and in some cases impossible to get rid of without a full hard drive wipe. So the best method is prevention. Be cautious of what you download, and only download from sites you can trust. Still, there are a few viruses that do not even need your permission to sneak onto your computer. That is why there is Anti-virus software and anti-spyware software. These take a look at the files on your computer and remove the malicious ones. According to the Toshiba website, there are specifically two models that have sold more than any other Toshiba Tecra Model.

The first of these laptops is known as the Tecra® A11. Its advertised price is $879.00. Features for this computer include a 15.6 inch eco-concious display. This means that materials used for this laptop are good for the environment. The Tecra A11 series also comes in ten different models with varying features that will affect the baseline price. The three prices list on the website are $879, $1,229, and $1,349. The more expensive models of this series come with 4GB DDR3 1066MHz memory, a 320GB hard drive, and a 512MB GDDR3 Nvidia graphics card. The cheaper range includes only 2GB DDR3 1066MHz memory, a 250GB hard drive, and integrated graphics. There are various others features that come with the laptop including 1GB Ethernet, webcam and mic, memory card reader, Bluetooth, a dual-core processor, and many more.

The second of these computers is the Tecra® M11. It’s models can be a little more expensive when compared to the A11. Prices range from $879 to $1,429. The M11 comes equipped with a 14 inch eco-concious display. Just like the A11, the M11 features Easyguard technology which protects against spills and shocks while keeping your data safe. In its simplest form, network security prevents unwanted programs from making their way onto a computer. It disallows malicious content onto your computer. Viruses, spyware, and forms of hacking are not permitted access to your PC assuming you have the adequate tools for prevention.

A basic firewall is one of the simplest forms of network security used in small homes. A firewall’s purpose is to block unauthorized access while allowing authorized access. Normally, when a new program is installed, Windows asks the user for permission to add this new program onto the firewall if an Internet connection is involved. For instance, Steam, a PC gaming platform for download and playing games, would need specific permission to get through the firewall, along with any other Internet game that comes with it. Firewalls can cause problems if it considers a harmless program a threat, which does occasionally happen. Special exceptions must be made when this happens.

Slow Computer Fix: Disabling Startup Programs

Sometimes the best slow computer fix can also be the simplest. Limiting what programs start when Windows starts can drastically increase the speed in which your computer loads.

Computer Taking Too Long to Start When You Power It On?

There are two likely reasons why your computer is taking longer to do initial boot up.

Programs want to be the center of your attention all the time, and they will try anything to succeed. Often, when a program is initially installed, it will either ask you if you want the program to start when Windows starts, or it will not ask and do it anyway. Regardless of whether the option is given or not, you can disable unwanted programs at startup whether they like it or not. Here is how to disable the startup of programs at startup:

1. Type “msconfig” into the run or search bar found in the START menu. Hit Enter.

This will pop up a window holding Windows configurations.

2. Navigate to the tab labeled “Startup.”

Listed here is every program that can possibly start up when Windows starts. Programs found in the SYSTEMS folder need to be left alone.

3. Uncheck all boxes for programs that you do not need to start when Windows starts.

Programs like AIM, Steam, OpenOffice, etc do not need to start when Windows starts and can started at anytime. So uncheck those.

4. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

On newer versions of Windows, it will not allow you to disable important system programs. On older versions, though, you can mess up your computer if you do not know what you are doing. Yelling, “My computer keeps freezing” will not fix a broken computer, but if you know a lot of programs are trying to start when you boot up your computer this might be the best slow computer fix.

Pork Chop Recipes Can Be Easy

Cooking pork chops does not have to be difficult. There are plenty of easy pork chop recipes available online. Whether the pork chops are barbequed, roasted, or cooked in a crock pot, they all can take relatively little effort to perfect a quick and wonderful meal.

Not going into specific details yet, many pork chop recipes have certain commonalities. Let us go back to the basics. Bacon, slow-roasting pig on a rotisserie, and pork steak are several examples of this meat in its various forms, yet not all of them can be considered “pork chops.” Pork chops can come from different parts of the pig, and it is structurally similar when compared with the beef t-bone steak. The meat is usually cut perpendicular to the spine of swine. Also, the meat for the chops can come from the rib, shoulder, or rear (sirloin).

Another commonality of these dishes is the marinade. The marinade gives the pork that succulent taste, and in some cases, brings out the taste of the meat itself. Combinations of butter, garlic, salt, pepper, and cider vinegar are often used as well as other ingredients. As with any marinade, covering the pork with it and leaving it sit is the best way of making sure the marinade is really soaked in. Let the meat sit in the marinade for a minimum of 15-30 minutes; a few hours or over night is recommended though.

Crock pot recipes are how I started out and not just with pork. Virtually every easy crock pot recipe involves preparing the ingredients, throwing them and the meat into the crock pot, and letting them cook on low (approx. 8 hours) or high (approx. 5 hours). More specifically, you can get enough pork to fit easily into the crock pot and just throw it in there with some quartered potatoes and a diced onion or two, and just set the timer. It is really that easy.

Roasting pork can also be effortlessly achieved. If you are new to cooking it is still easy. Just get yourself a large roasting pan and essentially do the same thing as mentioned above with the crock pot, except with the roasting pan. Stick that in the 325-degree preheated oven for an hour or two. Check back with a meat thermometer and make sure it reads at least 160 degrees so it is safe to enjoy.

No matter which cooking method is used, pork chops are a comparatively inexpensive alternative to steak and often comes with more parts which are edible. Easy pork chop recipes are easy to find on any cooking or recipe website.
